Brewing Innovation: How We Brought "Good News" to Life at Kopi Fest Indonesia

From May 27th to 31st 2026, Sun Plaza Medan was buzzing with caffeine and creativity during the highly anticipated Kopi Fest Indonesia, organized by Otten Coffee. Amidst the aroma of freshly roasted beans and the bustling crowds of coffee enthusiasts, our team had the incredible opportunity to showcase what happens when specialty coffee meets custom technology.

We partnered with one of the standout tenants of the festival, Toko Kopi Kabar Baik (which translates to "Good News Coffee Shop"), to help them promote their brand in a way that festival-goers would never forget.

Here is a look behind the scenes at how we blended nostalgic hardware with modern AI to create a truly unique interactive experience for their booth.

The Concept: Dialing in the "Good News"

Toko Kopi Kabar Baik is a brand built on positivity. We wanted to create a booth activation that physically embodied their name, so we designed and built an interactive IoT (Internet of Things) installation: The Kabar Baik Vintage Phone.

The goal was simple but ambitious: give visitors a physical medium to share their own "good news" and broadcast that positivity to the world in real-time.

The Tech Stack: Bridging Hardware and AI

To pull this off, we seamlessly integrated a custom hardware setup with a robust web backend.

1. The Hardware: A Nostalgic Interface

We retrofitted a classic vintage telephone with custom micro-computing components. The phone was programmed to detect the mechanical action of the handset being lifted and placed back down.

  • Action: When a customer lifts the handset, the internal microphone activates and begins recording.
  • Trigger: When the customer hangs up, the hardware packages the audio file and instantly pushes it over the network to our custom API.

2. The Software: AI-Powered Web Integration

Receiving the audio was only half the battle. Once the vintage phone sent the audio payload to the API at tokokopikabarbaik.com, the backend sprang into action:

  • AI Transcription: The audio was processed through an AI model to convert the spoken "good news" into text.
  • AI Summarization: Because people can get quite chatty, we utilized AI summarization to distill their stories into punchy, heartwarming highlights.
  • Live Web Feed: The processed text was then automatically published to a live, scrolling feed on the Toko Kopi Kabar Baik website.

The Festival Experience

The user journey at Sun Plaza Medan was seamless and magical:

  1. Step Up: A visitor approaches the Toko Kopi Kabar Baik booth, drawn in by the vintage phone on display.
  2. Pick Up: They lift the handset and are prompted to speak their kabar baik (good news) into the receiver.
  3. Speak & Hang Up: After sharing their story—whether it was passing an exam, getting married, or just enjoying a great cup of coffee—they place the receiver back on the cradle.
  4. See it Live: Within moments, their summarized good news pops up on the digital display and lives on tokokopikabarbaik.com/#kabar-baik-grid for everyone to read.

"It was amazing to see people's faces light up when they realized their spoken words were instantly transformed into a digital wall of positivity."

A Perfect Blend

This collaboration at Kopi Fest Indonesia was a massive success. It proved that technology doesn't have to be cold or purely screen-based. By combining nostalgic hardware with an AI-driven web backend, we helped Toko Kopi Kabar Baik create a warm, tactile, and highly shareable brand experience.

A huge thank you to Toko Kopi Kabar Baik for trusting us with this vision, and to everyone who stopped by the booth at Sun Plaza Medan to share their good news!
